Meeting Report
The first CEO and CIO Club’s meeting was held in March 2007 at Sheraton Hotel Hanoi with the main theme of Education and Human Resource for ICT, which was very much a hot and pressing topic in Vietnam where demand is more than supply.
A short opening speech was delivered by Mr. Le Thanh Tam, the Club’s founder and president to welcome the meeting’s enthusiastic participants, before the meeting’s speakers presented their technical food for thought.
CEO and CIO Club could not make a complete success without valuable support from sponsors. Oracle Vietnam was very happy to be the first to back up the organisation in its meeting effort to discuss the local ICT industry’s human resource. Mr. Ho Thanh Tung, Oracle Vietna’s country director took the rostrum to introduce his ERP with some cool ideas for Vietnam’s globalisation.
Following Oracle’s notes, the stage turned to guest speakers of the month. Prof. Dao Trong Thi, president of the National University of Hanoi shared his concerns over the HR issues with Mr. Le Nam Thang, vice minister of Post and Telecommunication. The forum was later opened for free discussion among national educators and big employers of the industry. They have concluded that there’s a gap between school training programs and the human resource market’s demand.
Mr. Truong Gia Binh, general director of FPT, a local leading IT company, complained that local university graduates often needed to be trained again or further for better English, professionalism, and even working attitude to meet employer’s requirements. Reply to Binh’s comment, Prof. Thi blamed employers not to directly invest in the education system for their own benefit, and not to join the educators in their program building process.
The heated discussion, though, has clarified what’s the problems and what’s the problems and what cooperation should be made between those concerned. IBM even took the chance to inform their need of nearly 1,000 employees with a supplementary training for those accepted.
When the discussion finished, an interesting orchid presentation was made by artist Hoang Xuan.
At the end of the meeting, the Club’s executives gave Member-of-Honour Certificate to distinguished guests before a warm networking dinner was served.
